I think you should look for info on a card system used for that particular game. Tekken is not a Naomi game, so I don't think it works with Sega's card games, but I could be wrong, maybe they use a universal card system.

DLX should know something, he is Namco fanboy hehe ;)

I don't own a System 256, only a 246.... I'm more a Soul Calibur fan, not Tekken...

Just buy a System 246 with Soul, it has a MEMORY CARD to save your progress :P

EDIT; found this;

"The only way you can play with a customized character is with one of these. They also keep track of your win/loss ratio and ranking(you can promote your rank by beating other players)."
