Scart switch advise

Post by Viny » Wed Sep 02, 2015 21:55

Hi guys,

I am looking for a good quality scart switch. I try to look up for review on internet but it is honestly a big desert as scart has been phased out for a while.

I also looked around media markt and allekabels.nl but they look pretty cheap from the pictures.

Any advise on brand models or shops?

Bedankt

check on ebay for Hama AV Selector 100S for a good 3 scart input switch.
I have one and it's pretty damn good.

They sometimes pop up in auction style, usually located in Germany.
I got one for I think something like under 20euro second hand including shipping.

I've been doing quite some research on Scart switches and tested some different models, here are my findings:

#1 Scart switch must be the custom made 8 way switcher, this one:
http://assemblergames.com/l/threads/gsc ... tch.52513/
But I didn't get my hands on one yet, but definitely make a pre-order when they are open again!

#2 Shinybow matrix switch
Available with 4 or 6 inputs and 2 outputs, I have the 4 input version (SB-5520), very hard switch to find but the best I ever used so far.
Quality is very good, easy switching with push buttons or remote control.
Advantage of the matrix switcher is you can display 2 sources to 2 different TV's or 1 source to 2 TV's, I use this a lot myself to show everyone the superb quality of my PVM over a LCD TV :)

#3 Bandridge automatic switcher
5 inputs, average build quality, but no noticeable loss in image quality. But nowhere to be found anymore...
Switching part works good, either automatic detection is you power up a console or by pushing a button to manually switch

#4 Bandridge manual switcher
Same as the automatic switcher only not automatic obviously, build quality of the selector push buttons could be better, sometimes the don't respond well and you have to push twice

#5 Hama AV-100S
3 inputs, lots of (cheap) clones available, but still the 'original' Hama is available.
On my CRT TV it worked very well, but now on my PVM it has some interference, but this could also be caused by my fluorescent lighting I think. So shielding is not perfect.
But I must add I own this switch for more then 15 years already!

Here is also a good overview:
http://www.videogameperfection.com/2011 ... h-roundup/

My current setup of switches looks like this:
4 consoles to the automatic Bandridge (one shelf in my cabinet)
4 consoles to the manual Bandrige (the other shelf in my cabinet)
Both Bandridges go to the Shinybow, so I can select 'shelf 1' or 'shelf 2' on the Shinybow
1 output of the Shinybow goes to a Sony PVM-2130QM, the other output goes to a Sony 32" LED-LCD TV

Hopes this helps you :)
Also the quality of the scart cables contributes a lot to the image quality, get some good cables to connect the switch to the TV and when piggybacking switches!

I use these cables by the way:

Very cheap and very good build quality!

Here's a link to the manual Bandridge, they also get harder and harder to find!

I bought mine for €17,- new, so don't overpay :)
